VMP Covergirl - Marion Lewis

This week’s VMP Covergirl is…… MARION LEWIS!

Elegant portrait of happy woman over 50 years old, Marion Lewis.

Marion came to be through another project participant, Diane Pearson. I love when clients come through other clients as I’ve met some amazing people that way and Marion was no different.

She’s co-founder (with Jeanette Thomas, another project participant) of a software solution for corporate boards called Govenda (Govenda.com). She’s passionate about showing the world that women belong in the boardroom and is heavily involved with philanthropy. Dynamic woman indeed!

Did you have any female, older role models when you were younger?

When I was very young, it was definitely my mother. I am the oldest of eight children, and she taught me all about unconditional love and perseverance. As I got older and became an entrepreneur, I joined Women Presidents Organization where I met a group of high-powered women who mentored me and many became my closest friends.

So how did you mark turning 50 And how did that feel to you?

I really loved turning 50. I took a trip with some friends and had a month-long party!

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don't be afraid to shoot for the stars or to make mistakes. Our most valuable lessons come from failure and lead to future success. And don't sweat the small stuff!

Do you feel like you've changed since you've turned 50?

I don't think my core values have changed, but I've certainly become less tied to other people's perception of me. I think attractiveness comes from inside, and I try to focus on being healthy and the things that bring me meaning.

Have your perceptions of what being attractive means changed over time?

Lots! Financial security, freedom to travel and explore, experiencing my children as adults, and grandchildren

What positives have come from being over 50?

I'm still running the software company I co-founded 10 years ago, and I'm enjoying the challenge of growing it and leading it to a successful exit. I have no idea what the next chapter will be, but I'm looking forward to discovering what it is!

What is your best advice for other women who are coming up on turning 50?

It really is just a number. Don't sweat it and just enjoy. Your most productive and best years are ahead of you. It s a wonderful time to focus on you.

Do you have any goals or projects you're working on? What dreams do you have for the future?

I hope people remember me as someone who was kind, fair and gave her best to everything she did.

Why are beautiful photos important to you right now? Why did you do this project?

I want to remember!

Congratulations Marion!!
